This was written for the University of Nebraska-Omaha's Brass Day which featured Horns of the Heartland. This piece is semi-programmatic and the composer was thinking about how light reflects and refracts through crystals.

Originally written for a senior recital, “To Higher Peaks” strives to live up to the beauty of horn writing and lives as a testament to the best of what the horn has to offer. The composer was artistically inspired by the Rocky Mountains and the development matches the climb it takes to scale one. Written at a level for all skill sets and ages, “To Higher Peaks” hopes to push performers to their next level of playing and it is dedicated to a teacher who does just that.

Throughout history many cultures around the world have had differing views on sexuality and gender. In the past thousand years those views have mostly favored heterosexuality and strict gender roles in society. However, even when society imposes these biases on their subjects there are people who do not fit the mold. Homosexual and transgender people have existed throughout history, even in societies that did not accept them. This piece is dedicated to all those members of the LGBTQ+ community who have been forgotten in the fight for acceptance, and those who have been killed fighting for the freedom to live as themselves. From advocacy against paragraph 175 in the Weimar Republic, to sentences of death in medieval times, LGBTQ+ people have consistently fought for the right to exist and to be accepted for who they are. Many of these people we remember, but most have been forgotten to time, whether it be by accident or intentional, we need to choose to acknowledge them.

Branches is a fast and exciting work written for saxophone quartet. It was written in honor of the nature and the National Parks of the United States. It was inspired by looking at the branches of trees. Branches is meant to evoke a sense of deep growth, and the spreading of roots and limbs. The broken intro soon evolves into long soaring notes that overtake one another as the piece develops. Each line branches off from the other lines as they separate their growth slows, and then the cycle repeats. As the piece develops the branches get more distant from each other both in register and tonally. All throughout the soaring, deep growth them keeps coming back around. The piece ends and the branches end up back together and keep growing ever faster, and louder until the climactic ending.

Summer Eve is a duet for marimba and vibraphone that traverses a very storied evening of friends in the summer. Its fun, light melodies grow darker with the evenings shadows and eventually comes to a pleasant close. Ideal for advancing high school players as well as college players.

The Current State is Not the End, is a direct reflection on both the current political and economic state of the world. The piece is a reminder that nothing stays the same, and everything is changing constantly. If we don’t like a situation that we are in, or we are uncomfortable with the current state of the world, we can find solace in knowing that it will eventually change and will get better.

The clarinet has always been one of the composers favorite instruments to write for. After hearing a performance of the Brahms Clarinet Trio, he fell in love with the combination of Clarinet, Cello, and Piano. This clarinet trio consists of two movements, a pastorale movement of three voices each dancing around each other and a meditation on a progression of three chords. Pastorale is an exploration of color between the three instruments. The pastorale scene starts with a peaceful idea being passed back and forth between the instruments. This idea is eventually corrupted as the piece plays out. The corruption is only reconciled by each voice playing out its ideas individually leading to a working but unsettled conclusion. Points of Light (Mediation) is a movement build on a repetition of a three-chord progression. It is a kaleidoscopic movement meant to mimic flashing and moving lights in a scene. Phrases come in and out of focus and notes flash in and out of the piece as if just passing by for a second. It is best listened to while reflecting and mediating on the repeated chords.
