Overture “Story City” was first written in 1892 by Nehemias Tjernagel and was first orchestrated for band by D. L. Ferrazi, a notable director of the West Point bands who died shortly after the work’s publication. In the style of an operatic overture, there are many themes that encompass the work; each representing a different facet of life in Story City, Iowa, the hometown of both Tjernagel and Hart. Since it predates the Holst First Suite in E♭, it presents an interesting insight to the intersection between orchestral transcriptions and original ideas at this time. Not much is known about early performances of the original version.

This edition fixes a number of mistakes from the original including missing measures in accompaniment figures and vague articulation markings, as well as updating the instrumentation for contemporary band. Solos from Clarinet, Tenor Saxophone, Trumpet, and Euphonium provide a wide variety of color, something this edition strove to present to match the variety in harmonic language.

This organ prelude was originally written for Fanny Mendelssohn's own wedding, but it was considered "un-womanly" for her to walk down the aisle to her own piece. While the solo has been an accepted part of organ repertoire in recent years, it is still fairly unknown. This arrangement for band poses to fix that while representing a great and accessible model for students to learn about Classical and organ stylings.

Forevermore March was written for the retirement of the composer's high school band director- Mr. Masemann. An expert in the American march tradition, it was only fitting to write a march for him that built upon those ideals. Most of the piece is original and hints at various marches from the canon, except for the the theme at the Trio. It is a favorite hymn of Mr. Masemann’s, “Beautiful Savior,” and works perfectly in that position. The first time we hear the hymn, it is played by a solo trumpet, Mr. Masemann’s instrument.

Orchestration: Piccolo, 2 Flutes, 2 Clarinets, Bass Clarinet, 2 Alto Saxophones, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, 2 Trumpets, 2 Horns, 2 Trombones, Euphonium, Tuba, Timpani, Percussion 1 (Snare Drum, Crash Cymbal, Bass Drum), Percussion 2 (Glockenspiel, Triangle, Slap Stick)

Fading Embers is a somber piece written for wind ensemble. It shows the power of love and how even throughout confusion and strife, it is still remains. It contains two distinct moods and themes. The first theme, apparent in the solo oboe, is the theme of love and caring. As the piece progresses the love and caring themes grow in intensity until love is overwhelming. After it slowly dissipates and falls back into confusion and the second theme. The second theme is that of strife and despair. This section of music is ominous and sparse. It slowly builds combining confusing sounds with a driving melody, and an unignorable march in the bass. Throughout the rest of the piece there is a constant back and forth with the love theme and the strife theme, instruments interject on top of each other, chords don't line up, but while the love theme may get slightly altered and changed, it is still there. It is consistent and it is letting us know that it will always be there no matter the despair, no matter the strife.

Orchestration: 2 Flutes, Oboe, Bassoon, 3 Clarinets in B-Flat, Bass Clarinet in B-Flat, 2 Alto Saxophone in E-Flat, Tenor Saxophone in B-Flat, Baritone Saxophone in E-Flat, 3 Trumpets in B-Flat, 4 Horns in F, 3 Trombones, Euphonium, Tuba, Double Bass, Timpani, Percussoin 1 (Suspended Cymbal, Brake Drum), Percussion 2 (Bass Drum, Tam-Tam), Percussion 3 (Triangle, Medium and Low Tom), Mallet 1 (Vibraphone, Xylophone), Mallet 2 (Crotales, Chimes)

The piece Snow occupies a special place in the composer's heart. This was the first of any of his compositions to be performed live. It was originally written in 2014 then finalized and performed in the spring of 2015. The second edition of Fog has stayed mostly similar to the original version, with standardized orchestration, and some changes in voicings to better fit the instruments. The piece consists of two main sections. The first section from the beginning to m. 80 in g minor, the second from m. 81 to the end in F Major. The whole piece is built entirely off the melody introduced in the first 8 bars. This chorale-like statement is played under everything from the beginning to measure 73. All other melodies and harmonies intertwine with this chorale and build off one another. This represents a fog bank slowly rolling in as the texture keeps getting thicker and thicker. While Fog can represent the literal weather event it is also meant to represent the struggles that we go through daily. The struggle to overcome challenges or as in the case of Fog the struggle to keep going when you feel lost. As this piece builds and builds you feel more lost, you get more stressed and anxious as you have no idea where you are or what is going on. The music, however, keeps moving forward. As it keeps moving forward you realize that this is the secret to getting out of the fog. If you keep moving forward with consistency, confidence, and determination, the fog will eventually clear and better days will be ahead.

Orchestration: Piccolo, 2-Flutes, Oboe, 2-Bassoons, Contrabassoon (optional), 3-Clarinets in B-Flat, Bass Clarinet in B-Flat, Contrabass Clarinet in B-Flat (optional), 2-Alto Saxophones in E-Flat, Tenor Saxophone in B-Flat, Baritone Saxophone in E-Flat, 3-Trumpets in B-Flat, 4-Horns in F, 2-Tenor Trombones, Bass Trombone, Euphonuim, Tuba, Timpani, Percussion 1 (Snare Drum), Percussion 2 (Tambourine, Tam-Tam, Bass Drum), Percussion 3 (Suspended Cymbal, Crash Cymbal, Triangle), Mallets 1 (Xylophone, Glockenspiel), Mallets 2 (Marimba, Chimes), Double Bass

Modern technology has brought us closer together than ever before in human history, but that same technology can also be a cause of great distraction in our lives. When all our technology is vying for our attention the most valuable thing that we own is where we focus that attention. Focus your attention on what is important to you, focus on what you cherish, focus on what you love, focus on what you want to change. When you get distracted, because we all will, remember to come back and to be kind to yourself, kind to those around you, and to refocus and start again.

Wind (2016) is a through composed piece written in late 2015. It starts out with a big gust of wind that slowly turns into a gentle floating ostinato. The melody floats over the ostinato and eventually gets over complicated until the gentle breeze turns in a full wind storm. The music continues back into a gentle breeze until it turns into a more grandiose melody that shows a picture of kites flying in the air supported by a strong warm breeze. It eventually ends and goes back to a more ominous restless breeze that then builds up to the finale where the final gust of winds blows us into the ending.
